As an ‘integrative’ psychotherapist and counsellor, I draw on a range of thinking, which allows me to adapt my approach to best support our relationship and your needs. Theories I draw upon include attachment & development, transactional analysis, gestalt and psychodynamic.
First and foremost, I am here to support you. I will be honest and authentic in our relationship, and I will treat you, and everything you say, with respect. There may be times when I respectfully disagree with you, but I will always value you and your experience.
For me, counselling is about being there as a non-judgemental support, to hear you and to help you discover your own solutions to whatever is troubling you. Psychotherapy tends to look more deeply at our past experiences, to find patterns that may have stopped serving us and to open up more choices for how we live in the present. I move between the two depending on your needs. In my experience, longer-term work allows us to go deeper, though shorter-term work can be valuable too, and we can decide together what suits you.
For many people, it can be freeing to explore different aspects of ourselves, drawing on an understanding of neurology, our bodies, our past experiences, our present environment and our spiritual well-being, as well as our thoughts and feelings in the moment. I welcome creative and experimental ways of working, and I find mindfulness can help regulate our thoughts and physical responses.
How we proceed is your choice and at your pace.
